Plant & Equipment

Design layouts relocate plant as required, adequately secure to floor and provide hard-wired power. Ensure cables are protected or installed in conduit.

Goods – Inwards, Stored, Outwards

Provide racking generally to factory areas to store materials, fixings, small parts, tools, templates, raw materials and completed goods. The storage areas should be designed into the layout to ensure protection of materials and finished goods but to allow ready access to receive delivered goods or for collection of completed goods with minimal interruption to work in progress.

 Bulk Materials

These items should be stored in substantial racks that are designed to carry the stored load. The storage areas should be accessible by forklift to prevent the need for manual unloading and to allow direct use as materials are needed. Racks should be placed against structural walls and secured to prevent collapse.

 Tool Storage

Design and provide tool racks to allow quick verification of tool stocktake. The tool racks may be mobile cabinets so tools can be returned to the cabinet when not in use.

 Parts Storage

Small parts, fasteners, filters, and accessories should be stored in racks established in rows with mezzanine storage overhead to minimize wastage of space and to allow a lockable storage area. When storing bulky items such as insulation it would be prudent to provide additional shelves or dividers to prevent the formation of a tangled mess.

 Rubbish & Offcuts

At all machines where bulk materials are cut, offcut racks should be provided. Establish recycle bins in the yard for steel, paper and cardboard and any other recyclable materials and decide for their collection.

 Yard Storage

Broken machines, damaged goods that cannot be recycled, reused or repaired should be dumped. Provide adequate racks for goods that can be stored in open weather. Ensure power to external storage is weather and impact protected and on RCD protected supply. Ensure security and integrity of yard storage.
