It is the policy of Company that the CEO and Senior Management has the overall responsibility to ensure that the Obligations and Responsibilities Statements in this procedure are issued and followed.

This policy applies to the Work Health and Safety Coordinator of Company
Responsibilities
Responsibilities of the Work Health and Safety Coordinator (WHSC)
- Advise the Foreman of a work team or manager about responsibilities under the Act and the overall state of occupational health and safety at the workplace;
- Report identified hazards and appropriate risk control measures to the Foreman of a work team;
- Assist in identifying appropriate training programs in occupational health and safety, in consultation with the OH&S Division;
- Act as executive officer for the local work health and safety committee, if there is one;
- Conduct annual workplace audits to identify hazards and unsafe workplace conditions and work practices; and
- Where the WHSC is also a supervisor they are required, for the area under their supervision, to review the circumstances of work injury, illness and dangerous events, identify any corrective action and request any additional resources or assistance required to undertake this corrective action
Where the WHSC is also a supervisor:
- Provide advice to WHSC’s regarding the management of workplace hazards and risks;
- Assist WHSC’s to identify and access appropriate resources required to address occupational health and safety problems;
- Provide WHSC’s with information regarding changes to the Act, Regulations and Codes of Practice and other relevant legislation and standards; and
- Facilitate the provision of updated training to the WHSC’s.

Leadership in Safety
The WHSC WHS leadership can be demonstrated through the inclusion of Workplace Health and Safety in the day-to-day running of the business. All aspects of the business functions should include WHS as a standard factor. Leadership can be shown by:
- Providing leadership and support for the promotion of the Risk Management System (RMS) and the ongoing effective management of the WHS Management Plan and Monthly Action Plans (MAP)
- Ensuring WHS is a standard agenda item on relevant meeting minutes
- Advising management on the penalties for breaches of WHS legislation
- Ensuring there is a process in the recruitment procedures to ensure potential employees are matched to the available position (e.g. pre-employment medicals, hearing assessments, etc)
- The CEO must appoint a member of Senior Management to have the overall responsibility for the WHS Management System and delegate the responsibility to them
- Conducting training using WHS Obligations and Responsibilities Training Package for Management
- Ensuring Senior Management is represented on the HSC and regularly attending meetings
- Senior Management is to set and approve WHS objectives and key performance indicators (KPIs)
- Management need to receive accident/incident and workers’ compensation statistics
- Senior Management is to take reasonable steps to ensure the WHSO and HSRs perform their prescribed duties
- Managers need to participate in Toolbox Talks or team meetings, accident and incident investigations, conduct hazard inspections and risk assessments
- Supervisors are to ensure workers undertake regular training to ensure they understand the importance of WHS
- Supervisors are to monitor the performance of their workers through the conduction of competency testing, Toolbox Talks or team meetings and observations of work practices
- Monthly reports on the implementation of KPIs, Rectification Action Plans (RAP) and the WHS Plan are to be submitted and discussed at Senior Management meetings
- The CEO advising managers and supervisors they will be held accountable for accidents/incidents in their areas
- Managers and supervisors are to be held accountable for the completion of items on the MAPs
