Purpose
The purpose of this procedure is to provide guidelines and information to effectively evacuation procedures within our company’s structures or sites.
Scope
This procedure applies to all workers of our company and visitors including contractors, volunteers, work experience students, trainees and clients.

Evacuation
In the event that an evacuation is required it is essential that an orderly evacuation process is maintained. All personnel should;
- Remain calm, avoid panic and confusion
- Know the location of the designated Evacuation (Form-Up / Muster) Point
- Be sure to know the safest way from the work site to the Muster Point
- Assemble in work crew groups on arrival at the Muster Point
Response to Evacuation Alarm:
- All personnel (except for site emergency personnel) are to proceed directly to the designated Muster Points
- If the designated Muster Point is compromised by the emergency, employees shall proceed directly to the alternate Muster Point as directed by the Person-in-Control of the workplace (Emergency Controller).
- All our company supervisors at the emergency site shall act as Evacuation Wardens and conduct a sweep of the work areas to ensure no personnel remain behind, including contractors;
- After the sweeps are completed, all supervisors shall report directly to the designated muster point;
- Once at the Muster Point, personnel to assemble by the team and team lists to be used to account for everyone present;
- Supervisors are to notify the Person-in-Charge of any missing persons;
What if someone is missing?
If any person is not accounted for, the Person-in-Charge shall coordinate with supervisors to determine the last known location. Emergency Services personnel may be asked to search for the individual if it is believed they are still on site. The Person-in-Charge will determine and advise Emergency Services of:
- The missing person’s name, a description if necessary,
- The time and location the person was last sighted,
- Any other relevant information (e.g. medical condition).
Definitions
- Evacuate – remove (someone) from a place of danger to a safer place.
- Supervisor a person involved with the management or control of a workplace (eg foreman, supervisor, person-in-charge or leading hand).
- HSR’s – Work Health and Safety Representatives
- Muster Point – Emergency collection area where people assemble in the event of an emergency evacuation. Muster Points are indicated on ‘You are Here’ diagrams throughout our company buildings and sites. These diagrams can be located in hallways or at door entry/exits.
