Purpose
Our company will aim to ensure that young workers are protected from the risk of injury or illness arising from workplace hazards, get treated fairly and are aware of environmental requirements.
Scope
We aim to ensure young workers receive adequate information and training about work procedures and practices, along with ongoing monitoring whilst employed by our company. Our company will identify the gaps in a young worker’s knowledge before they begin work and will implement a mentor-student workplace relationship on all its work sites.
Policy Statement
The Organisation recognises it has a responsibility to ensure its young workers are continuously supervised and appraised in order to ensure their safety.
Managers or Supervisors and staff are responsible for training our young workers to mature and become safe and environmentally conscious. Training will be continuous and should include consequences if young workers are found to be failing to follow safety instructions.
Close supervision of young workers is essential until they can demonstrate they are capable of performing service requirements. Documentation of this competence is essential. Records will be kept and retained.
YOUNG WORKERS WILL NOT CARRY OUT HIGH-RISK ACTIVITIES WITHOUT ADEQUATE TRAINING AND DIRECT SUPERVISION.
Trainees and Apprentices
The requirements for trainees and apprentices are governed by strict contractual arrangements between the organisation, ASQA, the RTO and the Apprenticeship Center. A breach of these requirements may result in financial and legal penalties. Requirements include:
- the recording and reporting of all training
- financial reimbursement for employment
- constant supervision by a ‘competent person’ in the workplace
- strict reporting requirements
- allocation of work-time for theoretical learning off-site, where required
Documentation
- Relevant training records
- SOA
- Tickets or licences
