Purpose and Objectives

This policy applies to the members of the Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) Committee of Company and includes contractors, sub-contractors, apprentices, trainees, work experience students volunteers and members of the public. It is the policy of Company that the WHS Committees has the overall responsibility to ensure that the Obligations and Responsibilities Statements in this procedure are issued and followed.

Scope/Coverage

This policy applies to the Workplace Health and Safety Committee employees.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities of Health & Safety Committee Members

  • Act in an advisory capacity on any WHS issues.
  • Maintain an active interest in WHS;
  • Consider measures for training and educating persons at the workplace about WHS issues;
  • Ensure all relevant workers have been consulted and given a chance to provide feedback into WHS Procedures & Safe Work Method Statements before being approved as an endorsed document.
  • Discuss and make recommendations on the management of hazards and risks at the workplace.
  • Reviewing the circumstances surrounding workplace incidents and dangerous occurrences and suggesting recommendations for correction.
  • Advising the employer about the results of any reviews of WHS issues and information undertaken (minutes of the meetings);
  • Review WHS procedures established for operations and recommending changes as necessary.
  • Review KPIs are arising from the Company Integrated Management System.
  • Participate in WHS assessments for changes to the workplace, work activities or materials, and recommending to management any action considered necessary to ensure safety.
  • Ensure that copies of minutes of all safety meetings are distributed to all operations of the organisation.
  • Reporting any Safety concern to supervisor, managers or the safety advisor.
  • Helping in the resolution of any health and safety issues.
